Learning from them about their strategic ambition is the best starting point. They're very clear about that and seek projects that help achieve it. If there's a clear match, they're really supportive through a very open and conversational approach.

That the people are great and you can have an honest conversation about what you need at different levels and they will tell you what's right for them. That they are very busy so might need a prompt from time to time if you have a broader relationship but they don't mind being prompted and deal with things quickly when they are in process.

My own experience is to really know what your own ask is and how any grant will help your community. The bigger the gap in our service re easier I have found to demonstrate what we could do with more. This was a unusual process for us having been approached to make an application and it felt a lot less stressful and I felt able to really explain in details what we needed rather than fit into funders boxes.

I understand a review of goals is ongoing. I felt the team took time to understand what our charities needs and goals were.
Keep listening in this way. It might be more time consuming for the team but it was good to have an in depth conversation in this way
We were funded on a learning grant basis following an initial meeting and then a 2 page summary grant application. This was unexpected but very welcome core funding.
The team really listened to the background information we gave them at the initial meeting.
