We are a specialist grant-maker. We mainly support work to strengthen financial integrity in the UK and tackle the UK’s dirty money problem. We have a history of supporting high potential UK non-profits which make a difference in low income countries. We take an engaged approach, as a proactive funder.

I would advise to get in touch with the Trust for a preliminary discussion. In our case, it helped a lot structuring well a proposal that would be meaningful for both sides.

The relationship with my organisation could have been more nuanced towards the end of the grant period. In the end, while enormously grateful for one year's generous support, I felt frustrated that there were few suggestions from the funder as to how we might renew the relationship in the future. It was as if the funder had decided there would be no point in continuing under any circumstances because my organisation had not met to the funder's satisfaction a specific - albeit important - condition of the grant.

I would highly recommend the Joffe Trust, they were friendly, approachable, offered great advice. Also the the process was not overly complicated or demanding for grantees and there was transparency about when decisions would be made.

Very accessible. Tbh, I approached them based on a contact that I already had, so I'm not sure how approachable they would be without that contact? However, having made the initial approach they were extremely accessible and helpful.

Expertise in its area of focus, thus offering real added value to grantees beyond financing. Simplified reporting process so that we can get on and deliver the project.
If you had one piece of advice to give to this funder (about grantmaking or anything else), what would it be?
Communicate more externally that you are available and the sorts of projects that you are interested in hearing from or about. Work to diversify the board of trustees.
