Call the foundation before applying to discuss your project. I read the guidelines, reviewed previous grantees, and all available information but as I work nights (childcare) I didn't call.
However, after being turned down, JRF explained that exclusions (which would have meant we wouldn't have applied) on their website had recently been removed.
Had I called, it would have saved a great deal of time.
There is a lot of information to read and get your head around. Do that first - make sure you think your project fits - and then set up a call.

How would you rate this funder's accessibility?

Responses to my emails were within a couple of days.
However, the website is really text heavy - requires hours of research to review content and ensure that your application provides all the necessary information. It feels very academic and was difficult for me to access as a native English speaker.
How successfully do you think this funder is accomplishing its goals as a funder?
Average
Unsure. But good to see a narrow focus so that they can make a meaningful difference to a smaller number of charities.
Tell us one thing that this funder does really well
Reflects and maintains Quaker values.
If you had one piece of advice to give to this funder (about grantmaking or anything else), what would it be?
Please encourage applicants to set up a call before applying once they have read all the criteria (and please add the funding exclusions back on to the website).
How was your relationship overall with the funder?
Excellent
Is there anything else that's be useful for others to know to understand this funder?
They are a smaller funder - so respect their time by reading all the information available and ensuring that you feel confident that your project fits within one (or more) of their Priority Funding areas

Thank you for your feedback. We do get a lot of applications and about one in five tend to succeed. Applicants are always welcome to call the office in advance of making a proposal.
