Funded for greater amount - applied in 2018

Cannot praise the Tudor Trust (in particular the Head of Grant Making) enough. Their support has enabled us to support a vulnerable group currently unaided by any other service nationally. The funding application was straightforward, with someone at Tudor always on hand to answer questions and make recommendations. But it is the support you receive during the grant that really makes Tudor an exceptional funder - always available for a chat, always helping in sourcing appropriate support, going out of their way to help.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We do understand that it can be especially disappointing to be turned down at the first stage of our application process. We try to keep our guidelines as open and flexible as possible, so that a wide range of organisations doing a huge variety of work are able to apply to us, but the trade-off is that we receive many more good applications than we are able to fund. We have worked hard to keep our initial application as brief as possible, but know that a lot of work still goes into each application. One of the reasons for us being on Grant Advisor is to receive honest feedback on this open access approach, and we will be sharing your comments with our trustees and feeding them into a wider review process. If you are considering applying again we'd encourage you to give us a call on 020 7727 8522 to chat through what you do, what you are looking for funding for, and possible reasons why we didn't take previous applications to second stage.

Funded for lesser amount - applied in 2017

The Tudor Trust is open to new ideas. They value honesty and we appreciate their openness to the process of learning by doing. We had funding for a post to drive a new approach for us; it was refreshing that we did not need to hide or bury our learning process when things that did not go as expected.

Understand that to grow and develop, an organisation and its people need to be free to test and try, and that sometimes things don't work out - but you have learnt, and can still grow.

If you had one piece of advice to give to this funder (about grantmaking or anything else), what would it be?

Maybe a discussion with us about the size of grant beforehand - a small but vital piece was not funded in our service, which had a disproportionate impact.
