If you had one piece of advice to give to this funder (about grantmaking or anything else), what would it be?
When specifying use of funds, it would be good if the funder was more aware of potential costs. The amount we were given was specified to be spent on something we had not applied for, which costs 4 times what we were given. We are now having to identify ways of reducing the cost or making up the shortfall to be able to use this money for what it was intended.

Seek advice from an independent supporting body on writing a grant application. See if you can get advice from a body who has already applied for funding and been successful.
Two Ridings are most helpful if you require clarification on how to complete the application.

Some parts of the application to seem to repeat themselves as an applicant you do find yourselves struggling to think what new evidence to put in some of the larger sections. The National Lottery application for small grants asks for much more straight forward ( down to earth) information that is easy to deliver. The

Please keep little charities in mind when awarding funding as many times we are missed or our projects seems small in comparison to a larger organisation even though our reach may be just as impactful if not more.

Invests in your work - unlike larger national funders, we do feel they care and are in your corner - we have had visits from them and regular contact and they seem genuinely supportive

Perhaps if submitted bids were emailed to applicant on submission - this may be the case however and could my email server!
