We are a specialist grant-maker. We mainly support work to strengthen financial integrity in the UK and tackle the UK’s dirty money problem. We have a history of supporting high potential UK non-profits which make a difference in low income countries. We take an engaged approach, as a proactive funder.

Know what you want their help for, and what difference that will make to your aims, and what difference that will make to the world. If you're too small to change things on your won who will you bring in or ally with to achieve change at scale? Have you got the right people and knowledge?

Work even harder at helping grantees to make new contacts - it costs little but can provide big returns.

Do the homework on what they fund, and the particular aspect of your work that aligns with other similar work they fund, and the added value. Get to know their other grantees, through networking etc, in advance in order to understand how you can collectively have impact.

We had a great opportunity to meet trustees to explain our work directly. We were able to answer queries face to face which I think is hugely beneficial as you aren't relying on a grant officer/manager to pitch for you.

The Trust works in a very personalised way so a preliminary conversation is necessary. Over recent years it has funded more activist and campaigning organisations so a 'politically neutral' project will not be successful

Is there anything else that's be useful for others to know to understand this funder?
Alex's transition from Chair to Exec has meant that the Trust's focus has become more narrow and possibly had a negative effect on its accessibility
